New COVID Safety Plan Requirement

New COVID Safety Plan Requirement

After only recently transitioning to communicable disease prevention plans, BC announced that, effective January 7, 2022, businesses are once again required to implement (or re-implement) COVID Safety Plans.  Returning to COVID Safety Plans, businesses will need to ensure that they have a valid written policy addressing COVID safety and that they are properly observing COVID safety protocols in their workplace.

WorkSafe BC has created a helpful checklist to follow with information about the requirements for a Safety Plan (see: https://www.worksafebc.com/en/resources/health-safety/checklist/covid-19-safety-plan-0821?lang=en). Employers will want to review the checklist to ensure compliance. Businesses may be required to reinstall barriers, repost occupancy limit signs, or amend or prepare a written Safety Plan. Plans do not need to be filed with WorkSafe BC but must be available to employees and for inspection by WorkSafe.
